Go Big Or Go Home

What's my next tattoo?

For as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated by tattoos. I just love them. Granted some are not as good as others but a lot of them out there are amazing and real works of art. So I guess it came as no surprise for those around me that I ended up with a few myself.

I got my first one in August 2008, the purple butterfly on the left. I wanted something that defined infinity for me, and the connection with the Universe. But I didn’t just want the infinity symbol so eventually I found this. The butterfly is made up of two infinity symbols but it’s also one line from one antenna to the other, so one line from beginning to end with bends and curves just like life. The colour purple is for the connection with the Universe, but also with my own body and mind and to all living things around me. Because I believe we are all one. That’s what this tattoo means to me, but for everyone else, it’s just a butterfly.

The second one is the word Namaste. It was a birthday present to myself for my 29th birthday. Most people know the word Namaste as a hindu greeting and sign of respect. It means “I bow to you”. It is also a phrase used a lot in yoga, and basically means “I bow to the divinity in you”. Both are very nice meanings in itself, it is a way to show honour and respect. To me it means even a little more than that. For me Namaste represents the following.

I honour the place in you in which the entire Universe dwells, I honour the place in you which is of Love, of Integrity, of Wisdom and of Peace. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are One.

As you can see that ties in nicely with the meaning of the butterfly. I guess you can say they are both very spiritual meanings (not to be confused with religious meaning!). Yet they are both really small. Especially compared to what’s to come..

I thought about it for a long time. I wanted it for a very long time but I never dared doing it for various reasons. From what other people might so to trying to find a job. But why should I let other people decide how I should live my life and what I can or can not do? So I decided to take the plunge and go for it, a half sleeve!!

Yes, the next tattoo for me is really “go big or go home”. For now I’ll keep the exact idea and design secret but it’s something that will totally fit with who I am as a person. The date is set, the down payment has been made and the count down can begin. My first session is in April, 2015. That’s a long wait, but it will be so worth it. It’s just the start of my half sleeve, because good art is expensive and for good work you have to pay good money so we’re taking it one tattoo at a time to add to the sleeve.

It will take about 6 hours to get the first one done, in two 3 hour sessions. Marsha from Point Blank tattoo will be doing it, and I’m just so excited. I’m sure I’m driving everyone around me crazy with my tattoo talks, it’s going to be a long 200+ days for them haha!
